Robert uses his broad array of professional and personal experiences to enhance his legal practice by bridging the gap between legal theory and real-world problems. Robert was born and raised on the north side of Chicago, in the West Rogers Park neighborhood. Prior to going to law school, he served in the United States Army as a tank crewman. Robert has lived in Europe and speaks fluent Norwegian and conversational Spanish.

Robert completed his undergraduate education at Northeastern Illinois University, with a major in justice studies and a minor in Spanish. Afterward, he attended DePaul University College of Law where he graduated cum laude. While studying at DePaul, Robert served as a research assistant to Professor Jeffrey Shaman, where portions of his research contributed to Professor Shaman's book, "Equality and Liberty in the Golden Age of State Constitutional Law." Robert also worked at the college's criminal appeals clinic where he represented clients in post-conviction litigation.

After working on medical malpractice and products liability cases as a law clerk with Steinberg, Goodman & Kalish, Robert was a family law intern at Cabrini Green Legal Aid in Chicago. There, he represented low-income clients dealing with issues of child custody and domestic violence. Robert has also performed freelance legal research for solo practitioners with cases before the appellate court.

Robert is active in his synagogue, Emanuel Congregation, located on the city's north side and serves on its board of directors. He is an avid martial artist, having studied since he was eight years old, and is currently ranked as an instructor in Tae Kwon Do.
